Yes, there are fire pits that you can use, first come first serve. Go to google maps on satellite view and you can figure out which one you’d like to use ahead of time.

No need to arrive early. The grunion tend to run late. Enjoy a nice dinner and park in the parking lot at La Jolla Shores. It's a nice walk up the coast to the pier. Bring jackets, as it can get windy and cool. Remember that if you disturb the first few grunion to hit the beach then the whole group will abandon the beach and look for a safer spot. Good luck!
