Emilia Pérez director Jacques Audiard revealed that he has not spoken to his film’s title character Karla Sofía Gascón following her controversial tweets. Audiard told Deadline Hollywood in an interview that he has severed ties with the Oscar best actress nominee amid a growing controversy regarding offensive past social media tweets and commentary that Gascón posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

By Jan. 31, during a Q&A in London, Emilia Pérez co-star and Best Supporting Actress frontrunner Zoe Saldaña said, “I’m still processing everything that has transpired in the last couple of days, and I’m sad. … It makes me really sad because I don’t support [it], and I don’t have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric towards people of any group.”
