Juan Soto’s reputation has always revolved around his impact at the plate and that shuffle after he lays off your best pitch. When the New York Mets landed him this offseason, no one was combing through the fine print for defensive upside.

As has often been the case this season, Juan Soto was a footnote in the New York Mets' 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. The 2019 World Series champion went 1-for-4 with a walk, but didn't score or drive in a run.

The right fielder was 5-for-10 in his previous three games against the St. Louis Cardinals, including a two-run double that gave the Mets a 5-3 lead in Sunday’s win. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza pointed to that hit as a “good sign” that Soto was about to break out.
