Bhubaneswar: Taking suo-motu cognisance of the alleged sexual assault of a fiancé of an army officer in Bharatpur police station, the Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW) on Friday started an investigation into the incident.

The Odisha Police Crime Branch has registered a case against five police officers for the alleged sexual assault of an army officer's fiancee in custody. The alleged incident has sparked a political row with the BJD and Congress slamming the BJP.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Friday (September 20, 2024) that his government will take stringent action against those involved in the alleged torture of an army officer and sexual assault of his fiancee at a police station in Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile, the police have countered the allegations, stating that the woman and her Army officer partner, who is with the 22 Sikh Regiment in Kolkata, were intoxicated and had attacked an on-duty officer, damaging police property in the process.

The woman said she was returning home with her friend, the Army officer, after closing her restaurant late at night when some men allegedly misbehaved with them.

An Army officer's fianc - arrested last week and released on bail Wednesday on charges of assaulting police officers - has now said she was sexually harassed, and her partner illegally jailed, while trying to file a complaint at a police station.

The woman, who had initially been arrested on charges of assaulting the police, was released on bail by the Orissa High Court on Wednesday.

The victim lady, in an alleged assault on an army officer and his lady friend at a police station in Bhubaneswar, on Thursday, narrated the ordeal she was subjected to at the Bharatpur police station on September 15.
