For Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson, not all blowout victories are the same at this time of the season. The top-ranked Nittany Lions, as expected, manhandled American 50-3 on Friday night at Rec Hall to finish their regular season with a 15-0 mark.

University Park— One Penn State wrestling star who’s been banged up for the past month didn’t wrestle against American Friday night, another did and coach Cael Sanderson explained why after the 50-3 win.

The No. 1 Penn State wrestling program, battered a bit by injury and illness, appears to be trending toward full-strength status for the upcoming postseason. The undefeated Nittany Lions (14-0) have missed three starters recently from their record-setting lineup for various causes.

Maryland star Braxton Brown at 133 had the Terps’ lone win of a fully contested bout, and sixth-ranked Ethen Miller at 157 won by injury default over Tyler Kasak after the No. 1-ranked Nittany Lion entered into concussion protocol for the second time this weekend and ultimately was forced to withdraw.
