Just over two weeks ago, the Michigan Wolverines shocked the college football world by unexpectedly firing Sherrone Moore for cause after just two seasons with the program.

Michigan is finalizing a deal with Utah coach Kyle Whittingham to be its next head football coach, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to the Detroit Free Press.

Whittingham recently announced he was stepping down after 21 years in charge of the Utes, though he’d made clear he wasn’t necessarily retiring from coaching.
