Hundreds gathered outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday in protest after authorities said federal immigration officers shot and wounded two people in a vehicle outside a hospital.
The shooting quickly rekindled mass protests outside a Portland Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility that had dwindled.
Many decided to protest Saturday in response to the shootings by federal agents in Portland and Minneapolis, with some attending a town hall with Rep. Maxine Dexter.
The Department of Homeland Security said its agent shot at gang members in self-defense. Still, hundreds protested at Portland’s ICE facility, and hundreds more held a vigil at City Hall.
Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) on Wednesday: "If you're in Portland, or you're in LA, or you're in Chicago, or you're wherever they're coming next, stand with us. Stand with us against this."
Six people were arrested on misdemeanor charges during a protest outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in South Portland.
