Guitarist Brian May unearthed the song during his Planet Rock Christmas Special on Monday (Dec. 22), revealing that it was originally recorded in 1974.
Following Smile's break-up, May brought the song to his new band Queen, and the quartet reworked the song with the guitarist singing lead vocals on the verses, and frontman Freddie Mercury singing the chorus. However, Queen's take on the song was never released.
Brian May gifted Queen fans this week by unearthing the band’s unreleased Christmas song "Not for Sale (Polar Bear)."

Over 50 years after its recording and more than 30 years after the death of singer Freddie Mercury: Brian May presents "Not for Sale", a previously unreleased song by Queen.
Queen guitarist Sir Brian May will play an unreleased Queen track that “no one has ever heard”. “Not For Sale (Polar Bear)” was originally recorded during the sessions for Queen’s seminal 1974 album, Queen II; however, it failed to make the final cut.
