Most of those 20 May tornadoes were on May 20, when a wave of severe storms rolled across the state and hit north Alabama particularly hard. There was a Level 3 out of 5 (enhanced) risk for severe weather for part of the state that day.

The National Weather Service has now confirmed that two more tornadoes touched down in the Tennessee Valley Tuesday night.
A Level 2 risk means scattered severe storms will be possible. Part of central Alabama as well as the Alabama coast will have a Level 1 risk, which means isolated severe storms will be possible. More severe weather will be in the forecast for Alabama on Wednesday and Thursday as well.
A tornado watch has been issued for all 13 counties in the Huntsville viewing area until 10:00 PM tonight.
