California Gov. Gavin Newsom gave a televised address on Tuesday in the wake of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations that sparked days of protests in the Los Angeles area and the deployment of hundreds of National Guard troops and U.

The governor bragged about working with ICE in California but said that President Trump was “trying to gin things up to create problems” at protests.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended President Trump deploying National Guard to L.A., stating Gavin Newsom is "choos[ing] rioters and criminal illegals" over American law enforcement.

Police arrested more than 20 people, mostly on curfew violations, on the first night of restrictions in downtown Los Angeles.

Elected officials, as well as social media influencers, had wide-ranging opinions of the governor’s prime time address warning that democracy is in danger.

The curfew was instated on Tuesday after days of protests against a string of immigration enforcement operations throughout Southern California. Bass said the curfew will be enacted daily until it's no longer deemed necessary.

The California governor exchanged words with Gov. Sanders and Sen. Mullin on social media amid tensions in Los Angeles.

Immigration raids and protests will continue so long as Trump is president. His opponents should do everything they can to stay within the law.
