The massive winter storm that dumped snow and ice across the US left behind over a dozen deaths and at its peak knocked out power for over a million electric customers amid bone-chilling cold.

Bitter cold is gripping much of the country after a massive winter storm swept across the U.S., dumping ice, sleet and snow from New Mexico to the eastern seaboard.

The storm has brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to the eastern part of the country, with National Weather Service warnings reaching from Texas in the south to New England in the north-east.

Winter storm Fern has exited Mississippi, but dangers still persist.

In February 2021, over 4.5 million homes lost power in one of the most devastating winter storms in Texas history.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves confirmed via a social media statement Monday, Jan. 26, that the winter storm caused the two deaths. Reeves also stated two injuries have been reported, one in Hinds County and another in Smith County. Both injuries were due to the storm, the governor stated.
