AUSTIN ( KXAN) – Texas is big — so big, it seems, that there are still things to be discovered in the state. Staffers at Big Bend National Park, located in Western Texas, found that to be true after discovering a new plant species “previously unknown to science,” the National Park Service confirmed Monday.

The plant, formally known as Ovicula biradiata, is especially notable for being the simultaneous discovery of a new species and genus. It was found with help from the community science app iNaturalist.
