Tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled home following recent Israeli military operations across the northern West Bank.

The Israeli military launched a wide-scale operation last month against militants in several cities in the West Bank. Now, roughly 40,000 Palestinians have fled their homes — the highest since Israel occupied the territory nearly six decades ago,

Israeli forces demolished more than a dozen apartment buildings at a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, a Palestinian official told CNN, the latest move in a military operation that has displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians in recent weeks.

A weeks-long Israeli offensive has demolished houses and torn up vital infrastructure in the heavily built up townships, Palestinian authorities said.

Aqraba is the largest town in the West Bank. Since October 2023, it has experienced 106 settler attacks, during which three residents have been killed and dozens wounded and arrested. During this time, Israeli authorities have ordered the confiscation 25,000 dunums (6,000 acres) of land and attempted to sieze another 75,000 dunums.

The IDF has destroyed several homes in the West Bank’s Tulkarem refugee camp. This destruction follows the IDF’s “Iron Wall” operation, which began in Jenin refugee camp in January to “dismantle the terror infrastructure built in Palestinian refugee camps” according to the IDF.
