A federal judge ruled Thursday that detained Turkish student Rümeysa Öztürk must be moved back to Vermont. Öztürk, a doctoral student in the U.S. on a student visa, is currently being held at a detention facility in Louisiana, after she was arrested in a Boston, MA suburb last month. Security footage shows DHS agents grabbing Öztürk on a sidewalk.

ICE has a week to bring a Tufts doctoral student to Vermont from Louisiana, a federal court judge ruled Thursday.

The federal government is fighting a judge’s ruling that Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk, who wrote an essay about Israel and the war in Gaza and is fighting deportation, must be transferred back to an immigration facility in Vermont from Louisiana.
