ELLIS COUNTY – An innocent victim died and two people were hospitalized Thursday after Dallas police were involved in a shooting following a chase and two-vehicle crash on I-35E in Ellis County, authorities said. It happened Thursday morning on I-35E southbound at Red Oak Road, in northern Ellis County.

The Dallas Police Department will hold a candlelight vigil on Friday to honor a fallen officer killed in the line of duty.

Dallas police said they were “aware” of a shooting involving an officer near I-35 in the Red Oak area in Ellis County.

According to new law, Dallas police officers can no longer arrest or cite individuals for possessing up to four ounces of marijuana.
