Two referendum questions are being voted on across Maine. One has to do with changing election laws, including establishing voter ID, while the other is about creating a red flag law.
There was a high voter turnout across the state of Maine today. Bangor in particular saw long lines throughout the day.
Maine voters on Tuesday rejected a ballot question requiring voter ID for elections but approved a red flag law allowing police to seize weapons from people deemed a threat to themselves or others. With about 50% of the vote counted Tuesday night,
Establish a process for people to request “extreme risk protection orders” against individuals who are believed to be dangerous. These orders would prohibit those individuals from possessing firearms or other weapons.
