The San Francisco Giants tried and failed to land Corbin Burnes. Now they could turn to a different Cy Young winner to round out their rotation.

The top remaining third baseman on the free-agent market is projected to end up with the Detroit Tigers, even after this weekend's drama.

With the first base position having less available playing time than before, potential Spencer Torkelson trade destinations have gone through the rumor mill for the Detroit Tigers.

Tigers ace Tarik Skubal has another two seasons of team control but is hoping to land a long-term contract with Detroit.

Back in 2010, the San Francisco Giants selected a near-consensus all-American out of Cal State-Fullerton named Gary Brown.

"It has been reported that the Giants were one of the finalists to land Burnes, but missed out when he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. After reportedly offering over $210 million to sign Burnes, the Giants could potentially take half of that money and use it towards signing Flaherty instead," Finkelstein wrote.
