Russian and Ukrainian negotiators will meet in Istanbul on Wednesday evening for their first peace talks in more than seven weeks, with Moscow under pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to strike a deal or face tough new sanctions.

The warring sides remain far apart after the third round of U.S.-brokered peace negotiations on Wednesday. But there was progress on humanitarian issues.

A third round of peace talks between Ukrainian and Russian officials is planned to take place later this week in Turkey, according to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky. “Today, I discussed with Rustem Umerov the preparations for the exchange and another meeting in Turkey with the Russian side.
