Google told parents that the tool has guardrails in place to protect from unsafe content and can help children with homework and make up stories.

Google reportedly sent an email to parents to let them know that the Gemini AI chatbot will soon be available for children under 13 years old. The New York Times cites an email that states the chatbot would be available starting next week for certain users.

In the email, Google acknowledged that “Gemini can make mistakes” and recommended that parents teach their kids how to fact-check Gemini’s responses. Along with double-checking, Google suggested reminding younger users that Gemini isn’t human and to not enter any sensitive or personal data into conversations.
