Alabama’s got a new area code coming next year - the seventh for the state - but there are other changes for which you may need to prepare.

The new area code will be 912 and will serve parts of southeastern Georgia, according to the Georgia Public Service Commission.

It will be the 11th area code in the state, the Georgia Public Service Commission announced on Tuesday.

Current 912 area code users will retain their numbers; new users will eventually be assigned the 565 code. The 912 area code, established in 1954, has been split multiple times to accommodate growth.
