UPS will also pay a one-time “signing bonus” of $60,000 to each captain and $40,000 to each first officer. The average UPS pilot covered by the contract earns $238,000 annually, UPS said in 2015.

UPS pilots had been making on average more than $175,000 a year, the company said. The new contract will boost average pilot pay to about $206,000 a year, UPS spokesman Mark Giuffre said.

According to UPS, its average active pilot pay was $175,830 in 2004. About 45% of UPS pilots hold a captain's rank, and the average pay rate for captains is $189 an hour.
