The National Women’s Soccer League says the game between Angel City and Utah should not have continued after defender Savy King collapsed on the field.

The NWSL released a statement saying King "left the field in stable condition" and was "responsive" upon arriving at California Hospital Medical Center. After being transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, she was diagnosed with a heart abnormality and underwent surgery to correct the issue. Her prognosis was described as "excellent."

NWSL says its protocols will change after Angel City defender Savy King required emergency medical care during a game against the Utah Royals.
