KYIV — President Donald Trump on Sunday backed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s call for direct talks with Ukraine, breaking his administration’s agreement with European leaders announced less than 24 hours earlier.

"I will be waiting for Putin in Türkiye on Thursday. Personally," the Ukrainian leader writes after Trump urged him to "have the meeting, now!"

US President Donald Trump may fly to Istanbul to attend a possible meeting between Ukraine and Russia. It is scheduled for May 15, the American leader said during a conversation with journalists. "I think you may have a good result out of the meeting on Thursday with Russia and Ukraine.
