Fun fact: EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, but if I could give it another name it would probably be “distracted working memory desensitization & reprocessing” 🤣 DWMDR is much more of a mouth full! The purpose of the eye movements in EMDR is to distract the working memory (or at least keep it busy) so that we can safely process past traumas without feeling completely present in them.
