Mike Holt Circuit Sizing - Air-Conditioning Sizing air-conditioning circuits are really simple. Just read the nameplate and use the NEC Table 310.16 (2020 NEC) and 240.4(D) and 240.4(G), 240.6, and 440.6(B). | Mike Holt Enterprises

Contrary to what many believe, there is no minimum conductor bending radius 'requirement' in the NEC or wire manufacturer instructions. For NM and AC cables, the radius of the curve of the inner edge of any bend shall not be less than five times the diameter of the cable [320.24 and 334.24]. For MC cable, the radius cannot be less than 10, 12, or 15 times the diameter of MC cable (dependent on cable diameter), see 330.24. #mikeholt #electricaltraining #electrician #electricaleducation #electrica

The first time you’re called upon to size a conductor and overcurrent device for central air-conditioning and you look at the nameplate requirements that clearly state that a 10 AWG copper conductor and a 50A OCPD are required, it may contradict everything you’ve learned about small conductors. In fact, you may adamantly insist that 6 AWG is required by the Code and you’d be wrong! Learn why in this video on section 440.4(B) of the NEC... https://www.mikeholt.com/newsletters.php?action=display&l

When a fault occurs in an electrical appliance, like a gas range, the connected metal gas piping could become energized exposing users to possible electric shock or fires caused by pinhole leaks in the gas piping caused by arcing. To eliminate these hazards, metal gas piping must be properly bonded per NEC 250.104(B). This section covers metal piping systems, including gas piping, when they’re likely to become energized. What are the NEC requirements for bonding of gas piping systems? What other than NEC requirements are involved in bonding metal gas piping? Metal gas piping must be bonded to the circuit equipment grounding conductor if there likely to become energized. However, many AHJ’s throughout the country enforce the metal gas piping to be bonded with an additional bonding jumper in accordance with the National Fuel Gas Code. | Mike Holt Enterprises
