FLYING ABOVE THE SIERRA MADRE MOUNTAIN RANGE The Sierra Madre mountain range serves as Luzon's natural shield against typhoons, demonstrating its vital role in protecting the populated areas of the Luzon region in the Philippines. Just recently, the Sierra Madre proved its role as being a "natural fortress" by breaking up super typhoon Uwan when it crossed Luzon.
