Today is Marine Mammal Rescue Day! We are grateful to all of our partners who help us coordinate rescue efforts for marine mammals in distress, like this team who recently helped an adult gray whale entangled in a gillnet off Southern California’s Palos Verdes Peninsula. These people were lucky enough to have this experience a Gray whale 'mugging' on a recent boat trip in Newport Beach, CA. With the engine of the boat turned off, this friendly whale pair decided to investigate for over 45 minutes, much to the delight of the passenger. These experiences are known as muggings because skippers are required to stay put until the whales decide to leave in an effort to avoid any nasty boat strikes.
