The Deupree family was at their grandmother’s home in Hunt, Texas, to celebrate July 4 when they say water from the Guadalupe River surged into the house in a matter of minutes, forcing them into the structure’s windowless loft. It was there that they used a fan, a wooden buoy and a pocket knife to punch a hole in the wall, allowing every single family member to escape the rising floodwaters.
